SUSTAINABLE WOODS

One thing we are very conscious of when selecting materials and products, is the impact it will have on the planet. We aim to use timbers that come from a sustainable source, package with materials that will have a minimal impact on the environment and reduce as much waste and landfill as possible. For this reason we have carefully selected our beautiful timber range. Each offer unique characteristics, read below to help make your selection.
WE AIM FOR OUR BUSINESS - AND IN DOING SO, YOUR BUSINESS - TO BE ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS AND TO GIVE BACK TO THE EARTH.
WITH EVERY ORDER OF BOXES, A TREE IS PLANTED ON YOUR BEHALF.

 CAMPHOR LAUREL

WE LOVE IT FOR OUR BOXES BECAUSE:

  • Camphor laurel has a beautiful grain with even texture, and streaks of darker brown or red over a honey coloured base. For this reason Camphor is often used in the making of fine furniture, bench tops and cabinetry.
  • It features the characteristic camphor smell that repels moths and other insects, making it perfect for storing precious items.
  • Camphor laurel looks beautiful left raw or oiled and takes on stain remarkably well, allowing the natural grain to show through.

WE LOVE IT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT BECAUSE:

  • We're using a resource which is helping to regenerate native vegetation and eradicate a weed...

Camphor Laurel was first introduced to Australia in the 1820's and was widely used for windbreaks and as a measure against soil erosion. Unfortunately it quickly displaced and inhibited native vegetation and as a result has proliferated on disused pasture along the coastal hinterland of NSW and is now categorised as a weed.
Although the tree itself is classed as a weed, the wood which can be salvaged when the trees are removed and replaced with native vegitation, is absolutely beautiful and lends itself perfectly to box making.

  • This means we aren't having to use farmed wood, which uses more energy.

    PAULOWNIA

WE LOVE IT FOR OUR BOXES BECAUSE:

    • It has a silvery ash, light pale blonde colour. It's almost like a natural white wash or driftwood.
    • Paulownia is a hardwood which is very light in weight but approximately the same strength as Cedar. For this reason it is commonly used for making surfboards, instruments, boats and carvings.
    • It has a unique coarse texture and grain, and a magic feel like a firm balsa wood.

WE LOVE IT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT BECAUSE:

    • Paulownia has the amazing ability to absorb 10 times more CO2 than any other tree species, releasing large quantities of Oxygen back into the environment.
    • The tree can be harvested at the stump and re-grow again to be harvested year after year.

      HOOP PINE

WE LOVE IT FOR OUR BOXES BECAUSE:

      • Pine offers a clean, evenly textured wood with a very fine grain. It has minimal grain streaks and is pale cream to light honey brown in colour.

WE LOVE IT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT BECAUSE:

      • Our pine is sourced from a local plantation which responsibly manages their forests with a long term approach. This includes preventing damage to eco-systems, waters, wildlife and the trees themselves, all the while soaking up carbon emissions.
